A question crossed my mind and I would like your thoughts on this.
James 1:17 (NIV) says : every good and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down (to us) from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
The question is: how would a young believer identify, and avoid bad and imperfect gifts.
I wish to get some advice here, preferrably based on the responder's experience.

Romans 6:7 says: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ our Lord.
If the wages of sin is death, then there must be something that rewards us with life. In this case the writer gives the answer by saying that it is only the gift that comes from God that can give one an eternal life.
Now, how can we identify a bad gift? Before you even say something is good or bad, just analyze first where the gift is coming from.
If it is coming from God, it should glorify him and in turn will reward you with eternal life.
Is it coming from the devil? Then consider John 10:10a, because that gift is only for awhile because the thief will steal it, destroy and eventually kill it.
I believe that the only way one can know the giver of a gift and eventually either accept or avoid it, is by searching the Lord and His understanding. Psalm 119:33-34
Interesting,
So, since the origination of the gift highlights the type of gift it is, The believer would need to find out who the originator is...
We are bombarded daily with all kinds of "ideas, suggestions, and desires" which seem to dictate that we "just grab" the gifts, before we even have time to do analysis. This usually results in foolish decisions. How then might a young believer be taught to "hold back the apetite" so as to be able to make the God honoring analysis? In otherwards, how can I (for instance) learn to quickly "Commit my ways to God that He might bring my God-honoring desires to pass" ? as written in Psalm 34:3-5...
responses would be greatly appreciated
